Textiles That Transform Your Home

Textiles have been an important element of interior design for a very long time. Incorporating different types of fabrics, colors, and patterns bring life to a room. There countless options from soft and natural like cotton and linen to strong and stain-resistant like synthetic microfiber. This can be an easy and inexpensive way to transform a space.

Curtains

Curtains can be a great feature in a room, and they are used to keep light and sound out of your home when you want to have some privacy as well as provide visual interest. You can get curtains in a huge range of styles and patterns, and some companies will even let you send in your own fabrics for custom curtains. Personally, I prefer curtains over blinds when it comes to window coverings. In fact, my home only has one window with a set of blinds out of 22 windows of varying sizes!

When it comes to curtains, make sure you choose the right fabric for the room. If you’re choosing curtains for a bedroom, you may want to go for blackout curtains that provide insulation as well as ensuring that no light can enter. If you’re dressing windows for a sunroom and would like to diffuse some light during the hottest times of the day, sheer fabric will do the job.

Bedding

A home is an escape from the world and your bedding should feel inviting after a long day at work. Hotels invest in some of the best bedding because, after all, their job is to make your stay as pleasant as possible. Options like hotel quality bedding from Richard Haworth can improve your nighttime experience, providing you with a good night’s sleep every night. You will be able to pick from a vast array of designs when you’re looking at bedding from your favorite establishments.  A comfortable and inviting bed is key to a good nights sleep, if you’re looking for a place to splurge, this is it.

Upholstery

You may be tired of that old sofa or chair that’s been wanting to replace for a while. Consider reupholstering instead of buying an entirely new piece of furniture. By doing so, you’ll be able to choose your own fabric that matches the aesthetic of the room and aligns with your style. There are many youtube videos on how to reupholster and you can do so inexpensively, however, if you’re not the DIY-type, simply find a local shop that can do it for you.

Wall Hangings

Fabric wall hangings have been around for a very long time and they’re making a modern comeback. Fabric wall hangings bring a fun twist to traditional wall art. Websites like Etsy are packed with artwork like this, giving you the opportunity to find something that properly matches your style. Fabric wall art comes in all colors, shapes, sizes styles that range from yarn art, woven styles, and quilts.

Rugs & Carpets

Finally, it’s time to turn your attention to the floors in your home. Area rugs are an incredibly easy way to add comfort to your space. They can bring a room warmth to a room with tile or wood flooring as well as reduces noise.  They also help organize a space, you can arrange furniture around an area rug to complete a look. Choosing the right type and size area rug is crucial. If it’s a space with high foot traffic, or if you have pets and children, it may be wise to choose a washable area rug that you can just pop in the washer when it gets dirty.
